Thankyou to the Queen

(copied from The Word for Today)

As we bade farewell to Queen Elizabeth II, I was in awe that 4.1 billion people worldwide watched her funeral. What was also remarkable about her commitment as a defender of the faith was that she planned her funeral, right down to the bible verses and hymns she wanted to share with the world. It was a true testament to her Christian faith. Praise God that she was uniquely positioned to share the good news of the Gospel with billions of people!

The Archbishop of Canterbury gave a powerful sermon. He said, ‘Jesus does not tell his disciples how to follow, but who to follow. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.”’

Queen Elizabeth served her nation and Commonwealth for 70 years. In comparison, Jesus served for three and a half years, yet His impact continues to grow. He was born in a manger and died on a cross, yet He is King of kings and Lord of lords and led a life without royal privileges and riches.

“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.” John 11:25-26

I have not been one to take great interest in the Royal Family over my lifetime, although I did enjoy the NETFLIX series on the Queen. However since her death I have been more interested in this woman who served steadfastly for 70 years. I will never really understand how life was for her and can only imagine the personal sacrifices she must have made over her lifetime to be true to her calling in life.

As Christians we are all called to serve. Some of us are in the media spotlight, but most of us are not. Yet we should never underestimate our example to those around us.

I for one am encouraged to 'serve better'. To remember that when I am serving people, I am in fact serving my God. To remember that while rewards on earth are nice, I have eternal rewards to look forward to. To remember to serve out of a heart of love, not out of a want for return.

Thankyou to the Queen for her example to me, even after her death. She certainly has 'entered her rest'.

Be blessed
