Am I a true friend?

This morning I read this statement "Surround yourself with people who will pray for you behind your back" on a Facebook post. It really pulled me up!

Do I have friends that pray for me behind my back?

Better still am I that kind of friend?

I have to admit that sometimes I am not that kind of friend!

So this morning I took a look at what God says in his word about friendship.... and wow He has a LOT to say!

• Proverbs 18:24 shows us that there are many kinds of friends, those that we need in our lives, others we may be better off without..

• Proverbs 17:17 shows us that new friendships are often formed when we are at our worst.

• John 15:12 shows us who our greatest Friend is - the One who laid down his life for us

• Job 16:21 shows us that a friend will pray for us when we are in need

• Job 42:10 shows us that God listens to the prayers of our friends

• Proverbs 27:9 shows us that our friends will also be our counsellors

• Proverbs 16:28 shows us the danger of gossip and how it separates even the closest friendships

• Proverbs 17:9 shows us that forgiveness plays a big part in maintaining friendships

• Ecclesiates 4:10 shows us that friendships are about helping the other and being helped by the other

• Job 6:14 shows us the kindness is an essential ingredient to friendship.

• Proverbs 27:10 shows us it is important to be there for our friends.

• Proverbs 22.24 shows us that we need to choose our friends wisely.

I am encouraged this morning and also challenged on the true meaning of friendship. I ask the Lord to forgive me for the times I have not been that faithful friend and to help me to always be that one that prays for my friends, even behind their back! I ask the Lord to connect me with the right friends and to disconnect me from the ones that are not good for me. And above all I thank YOU Jesus for your faithful friendship and for laying down your life for me and that You call me friend.
