Today Lord, we remember You... the sacrifice you made for all mankind.
You knew this time was coming and even prayed that 'this cup be taken from you', yet You chose to do the will of Your Father over your own.
Death by crucifixtion is not something I can even imagine, but the pain must have been unbearable and the bible tells us that you were beaten to a state of being unrecognisable even before you were crucified.
You were placed on a wooden cross with barely any clothing and had your hands and feet nailed to that beam with crude wooden stakes.
And then the cross was raised and you were left to hang there until death.
Yet even in that state you comforted another that was crucified next to You, You asked John to take care of his mother and You asked God to forgive mankind for what they were doing to You!
Yes it is true, that you rose again and now live forever more and You are the way, the truth and the life for all of us who will believe in You, yet knowing all this was to come would not have made this day easier for You. You were God on earth, yet you were also human and you experienced all the emotions of a human who had to face a horrible painful humiliating death.
I can only say Thankyou Jesus - yet it doesn't seem enough. And yet it is! If it wasn't then the sacrifice You made would not be enough. You made the way for my freedom. You made the way for my forgiveness. You made the way for my eternal life.
You made the way for everyone who believes in You.
I say Thankyou Jesus and I remember your sacrifice on this very Good Friday!
Be blessed
